Revision Code Format Update — Switching to YYMM.Alpha
We've made a global update to our document revision code format across all PSEC × SAIYU documentation. This change was driven by a practical need for better readability, particularly within Fieldwire where long identifiers reduce clarity in tight UI fields.
What Changed
Document Revision Codes
| Format | Old | New |
|---|---|---|
| Revision code | Rev.YYYY.MM.Alpha | Rev.YYMM.Alpha |
| Inline revision | Revision: 2025.08.a | Revision: 2508.a |
The year has been shortened from four digits to two, and the separating dots between year and month are removed.
Examples:
| Before | After |
|---|---|
Rev.2025.08.a | Rev.2508.a |
Rev.2023.02.b | Rev.2302.b |
Revision: 2026.01.a | Revision: 2601.a |
Fieldwire Version Descriptions
For plan version entries in Fieldwire, the date stamp format has also been shortened:
| Format | Old | New |
|---|---|---|
| Version date | YYYY.MM.DD | YYMMDD |
Examples:
| Before | After |
|---|---|
2025.02.01 | CC5 | RevGG.1 | 250201 | CC5 | RevGG.1 |
2024.10.11 | Additional | 241011 | Additional |
Why We Made This Change
Key reasons:
- Fieldwire readability — shorter strings display fully without truncation in Fieldwire's version column.
- Consistency — aligning both revision codes (
YYMM) and fieldwire dates (YYMMDD) to the same two-digit year convention.
Scope of Change
This update was applied globally across all documentation in the PSEC × SAIYU knowledge base, including:
01-policies— Filing Management, Revision Management, PSEC and SAIYU-specific policies02-commercial— Construction contracts, invoicing, POs and bills04-procedures— Fieldwire guides (PSEC & SAIYU), Buildertrend workflows, Google service guides07-knowledge-base— Development flow, Class 1 fire CC process
The policy document Revision Management (docs/01-policies/RevisionManagement) has been updated to reflect the new format definition and updated examples.
Going Forward
From today, all new documents and revision log entries should use the new format:
Rev.YYMM.Alpha ← for document revisions
YYMMDD ← for Fieldwire version date stamps
If you find any remaining instances of the old format, please update them and notify the SAIYU PM.
